Youngsters set to hit the stage

What reasons would a bunch of kids have for spending every afternoon in a hot school building rather than outside swimming or riding their bikes?

The chance to learn a new dance, belt out a song or simply have a moment in the spotlight, to name a few.

And that's what more than 30 local youngsters are doing as they prepare to present "It's A Magic Land" at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at East Elementary School, Greenville. This year's Young People's Theatre production is open to the public and tickets will be available at the door.

The show was written and is directed by Charlotte D'AIfonso, who has directed the Young People's summer shows for 23 years.

D'AIfonso, an actress and puppeteer, appears in Greenville Area Community Theatre productions along with directing the kids.

"All kids should be on stage at one time or another. Not only does it help them feel good about themselves, but their parents want to see them. I just think every person should have a chance to shine at least once. That's why we don't audition for this show. There is no rejection here."
