decision last night Herald Staff Writer Nearly two hours into Sharpsville council's work session Wednesday night, South Pymatuning Township Supervisor Burt DeVries asked if a vote would be taken on the much-talked about water-treatment plant. His answer, and the answer to a standing-room-only crowd that was stuffed into the borough building, was no -- from Council President Jack Cardwell. Although no official public notice was given that a vote was on the agenda, Cardwell had indicated July 7 that a decision would be made at Wednesday's special meeting regarding the sale of the plant. Council members didn't get their first glance at an inch-thick pile of information compiled by Borough Manager Mike Wilson until the meeting because of delays caused by Monday's storms. That, in part, caused another delay of the much-anticipated vote, a delay that has stretched out longer than Cardwell said he ever anticipated. He ended Wednesday's meeting with an emphatic statement about council's Aug. 13 meeting: "There will be a final vote and we're going to stick with that. I don't care if there's an earthquake, a hurricane, 5,000 tornadoes or a plague of locusts. We're going to have that vote." |
