Greenville Municipal Authority will be pouring $106,000 in state money into protecting Greenville and West Salem and Hempfield townships' drinking water. The state announced last week $1.2 million in grants to 27 municipalities in Pennsylvania for water-protection programs. Of the grant recipients, Greenville got the second-highest amount in the state; the top grant getter was Reading at $198,000. Volant received $20,894. "It's a significant amount of money," said Dick Miller, chairman of the water authority board. "It may be one of the largest grants we've ever got." The money will be used to "to develop programs to protect the purity of water sources," Miller said. |
