Thespians acting just like 'Fools'

While some people may have chosen to spend the summer reading and learning, Greenville Area Community Theatre members chose to spend its time dumbing down.

But those GACT members will prove their smarts when it comes to playing dumb. For this year's annual summer production, GACT will perform playwright Neil Simon's idyllic 1981 comedy "Fools."

The play can only be described as lighthearted and silly, says GACT director William Robinson, who believes the humorous production will keep the audiences laughing.

The show is set in the 1890s Ukrainian village of Kulyenchikov, where, for more than 200 years, the villagers have been cursed with chronic stupidity. The curse that dwells in each of the villagers leaves them unremittingly stupid, or just plain dumb.
