For the time being, Sharon city officials don't have to worry about paying fines or spending any time in jail for overspending. In a 3 to 2 vote Thursday council tabled a proposed ordinance that would prohibit spending more than an allotted amount every three months. Council members Raymond Fabian, George Gulla and Chris Outrakis voted to table the ordinance while President Fred Hoffman and Lou Rotunno voted against tabling it. "I figured the mayor would get someone (to table the ordinance), I just didn't figure it would be you," Hoffman said to Fabian, who made the motion to table the ordinance. Fabian said he had "great concern" about people being fined and going to jail. He said the intent of the ordinance was to keep people from being careless with spending, and he said those people got the message. He said the penalties were "a little too stiff." |
