Farmers market rules changing
to curb controversy

Farrell council members have agreed to change an age-old city ordinance covering the rules and regulations of the local farmers market.

Under current law it is illegal for anyone to sell goods at the Farrell Farmers Market they didn't grow themselves.

Mayor William Morocco said the market has become a bit of a problem this year, because some vendors haven't been getting along and have gone so far as to set up shop on private property across the street from the city's market at Federal Street and Wallis Avenue. Some vendors have also been kept out of the market by someone who isn't authorized to do that, Morocco added.

"In order to get everyone under one tent," an amendment to the ordinance is in order, Morocco said. He said if council follows the lead of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Farmer's Market Nutritional program, there should be fewer problems.
