Even Start program
ranks 4th of 31 in Pa.

Dr. Georgina Rettinger, executive director of the Literacy Council of Mercer County Inc., has been notified that the agency's Even Start Family Literacy Program has received a state ranking for fiscal year 2001-02 of fourth out of 31 Even Start programs.

Danielle J. Guyer, director of the Bureau of Adult Basic and Literacy Education, said the performance profile gives agencies a simple overview of how they performed against the state standards and their peers.

The determination of the state ranking was based on a weighted formula that included the most reliable data for scoring Administrative Performance (Reporting & Enrollment), Program Performance (Retention, Assessment & Outcomes) and Summer Reading Program Administrative Performance (Reporting, Enrolled and Non-Enrolled).

The Literacy Council offers Even Start programs in Greenville at 222 Main St.; Hope VI, 102 Wallis Ave., Farrell; and at First Presbyterian Church in Mercer.
