Plant damaged but still in working order

Recent floodwaters caused about $300,000 damage to Brookfield Township's wastewater treatment but the plant was able to keep operating and no raw sewage was discharged, Trumbull County Sanitary Engineer Tom Holloway said.

Holloway said flooding July 21 and 22 at the treatment plant was some of the worst he'd seen in his 18 years with the department.

"I've seen wet months with heavy rain, but I've never seen flooding like I've witnessed this last time," he said.

Three plant buildings were flooded -- two of them with four to five feet of water and the third was completely submerged under 12 to 16 feet of water.

Holloway estimated plant damage to be around $300,000.
