GREENVILLE -- Greenville Municipal Authority Tuesday waived hydrant and water main fees it charges the borough until 2005, a move that could save the town $35,000 over the next three years. The move was suggested by the borough's Act 47 plan. Act 47 is designed to get financially distressed communities out of debt. The authority decided to forgive a fee of $11,700 for 4-inch water mains and a $26.25 hydrant rental fee. The borough pays the fee each year for 27 miles of 4-inch water mains, although the fire department does not use any fire hydrants on the 4-inch mains. After 2005, the authority may continue to waive the fees or resume charging the borough the full amount. |
