'Some' movement in tube plant talks

By Kristen Garrett

Production continues at the Wheatland Tube plant as both company officials and members of the striking United Steelworks Local 1660 struggle to come to an agreement on a new contract.

The two sides met Friday morning for another round of negotiations.

"Both sides showed some movement, and I term the session productive," said Bill Kerins, vice president of Wheatland Tube. He said the tone of the meeting was "very professional."

Kerins said there was movement on a number of issues but didn't offer details.

"We moved, I thought, considerably. The company didn't move very much at all," said Dominic Vadala, the union's chief negotiator. "In the very beginning it was pretty rocky, but after that it settled down."
