A former Sharon and Hempfield Township woman who is in an Ohio prison for her role in the 1988 kidnap and murder of Thiel College graduate Roger "Butch" Pratt of Munhall, Pa., has sued an Akron police sergeant, claiming he reneged on his marriage proposal and exposed her as an informant. According to the Beacon-Journal newspaper of Akron: Linda J. Karlen, 50, is seeking more than $2.5 million in damages from police Sgt. Sean Matheny, the city of Akron and Ohio Gov. Bob Taft. Ms. Karlen claims the 47-year-old Matheny romanced her, lied about being divorced and failed to fulfill his promise to secure her release from prison and marry her. She is seeking compensation for breach of contract and as a wrongfully imprisoned person. In her lawsuit, in which she acts as her own attorney, Ms. Karlen claims "a good husband is worth at least" $250,000 a year. |
