Hide and seek: Man discovered in house manages to elude police

A man running from police Tuesday made at least one wrong turn, a turn that got him punched twice and bitten by a dog, before he barely escaped into the Orchard Street and Walnut Avenue area of Sharon.

The unidentified man was already running from police, who had reportedly served an arrest warrant on him earlier at his Prindle Street home, when he found his way to the upstairs apartment of Anthony Kuchmak Jr. at 225 Orchard St. at about 4:30 p.m.

Kuchmak was still at work and homeowner Betty Lyons, 63, who was in the kitchen cooking, said she heard a noise upstairs. Ms. Lyons' grandson Clyde Richards, 18, ran upstairs and found the man in the bathroom.

"He went to run out the back door, but my grandma let the dog out the back, and I told him there was a pit bull in the backyard," Richards said. "Then I hit him because he was reaching into his pocket. Then he started stumbling back and I hit him again. And he stumbled back a little bit more."

At about that time, Richards said, Sharon police arrived in the area.

Richards said the intruder ran out the back door but apparently tripped on something and fell.

"When he fell I guess the dog bit him in the face," Richards said.
