Mercer County's Big Brothers and Big Sisters program is in jeopardy after its sole financial support -- a state grant program -- was cut off due to budget cuts in Harrisburg. The program is hosting a meeting at 7 tonight at the Greenville Borough Building in hopes of rounding up a local support committee. Volunteers would be responsible for helping with fund raising, public relations and outreach. "We want the program to go forward. It's all about helping the kids, and we do need the community to get involved at this point," said Roxanne Brown, executive director. Thiel College, which runs the program that covers Mercer and Crawford counties, was notified the Communities that Care grant that's funded it since 2001 had been terminated. |
