Four school board candidates Tuesday morning filed a motion in Mercer County Common Pleas Court seeking an emergency injunction to prevent Jamestown Area School Board from proceeding with the $7.8 million high school renovation it approved June 30.

But after a brief session with lawyers from both sides, Judge Thomas R. Dobson decided not to grant the injunction, instead setting a full hearing on the matter for 10 a.m. Aug. 21. Dobson said the individual school board members named in the legal paperwork -- Doris F. Livingston, Kevin C. Floch, Christine L. Kneeland, Linda L. McClimans and President Guy L. Brooks -- would not be required to show up for court.

The request was filed by Assistant District Attorney Robert Kochems on behalf of Beverly J. Riley, James G. Routh, James L. Owens and James S. Williams, all school board candidates who won nominations in the primary.

In addition to the individual school board members, the injunction request was filed against the school district and the contractors hired for the project: Hudson Construction Inc. of Hermitage; Shipley Plumbing Inc. and ASCC Inc., both of Cranberry Township, Butler County; A&B Heating and Plumbing of New Castle; and Arrow Electric Inc. of Meadville.
