Sales tax increase is taxing residents and businesses

Mary A. Lark said she didn't know until a few days before last Friday's deadline that she would not be required to charge sales tax on her hairstyling services.

Ms. Lark, owner of Hair Designs by Lark on North Main Street in Hubbard, said everybody was prepared to start paying taxes on their hair services.

Friday, the state's sales tax was extended to services that used to be exempt, including tattooing, body piercing, tanning and some beauty services, vehicle towing, snow removal, taxis, chartered buses and masseuses.

Trumbull County's sales tax rate is 7 percent.
