2 accused of helping man elude police

A warrant arrest turned into an hours-long cat-and-mouse game Tuesday between Sharon police and a city man.

The chase began at about 4:30 p.m. after police went to the home of Charles Deems, 26. Police had received a tip that Alvin Combs III, 33, of 264 New Castle Ave., Sharon, for whom they had a warrant, was at Deems' Prindle Street home.

Police said Deems told them Combs wasn't there, but then Combs ran from the house and into a home at 225 Orchard St., where he was hit twice by 18-year-old resident Clyde Richards. As Combs tried to run from that house, the resident's dog bit him in the face.

After chasing Combs around the city, police said, they eventually found him just after 7 p.m. hiding under a bed in the home of Catherine Pope, 45, of 118 E. Budd St. Like Deems, Ms. Pope told police Combs wasn't there.
