By Jeff Greenburg Herald Staff Writer A nearly two-month investigation of Sharpsville's K-9 officer Tom Borton has been completed and Borton has resigned, District Attorney James P. Epstein said Wednesday. Epstein said the investigation revolved around a statute that makes an employee's unauthorized use of an employer's computer illegal. "In this case the unauthorized use does not amount to a criminal act," Epstein said. "And officer Borton has resigned his job and we think that's an appropriate resolution. We are not going to take further action. He has resigned his position with the borough police department and we think that resolves the issue of his inappropriate use of the computer." Borton was suspended with pay June 6, according to Mayor Kenneth Robertson, who also said he is satisfied with the thoroughness of the investigation and with Borton's resignation. |
