Neither side is commenting, but a petition has been filed in Mercer County Common Pleas Court by an East Lackawannock Township man who is suing Mercer Area School District under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Act.

Eldon N. Watson III, 48, of 1256 Mercer-New Wilmington Road, filed the petition in the Prothonotary's office Tuesday, asking for the courts to hear his case.

In Watson's June 18 letter to the school district and Superintendent Dr. William Gathers, who is also named in the petition, Watson asked to view or for a copy of the names and addresses of all kindergarten students registered for the upcoming school year, setting into motion a series of events that eventually led to the filing.

Watson didn't state a reason for that request in his letter, nor would he tell The Herald Wednesday why he was seeking such a list.
