By Lauri Galentine Herald Writer Residents along Fairgrounds Road have said they won't tap into Stoneboro's sewage system when it comes through, even if the town's ordinance does require them to. "They can threaten us, but we're just not going to do it," said Donald Beckman, 271 Fairgrounds Road. "What are they going to do? Put us in jail?" Stoneboro's sewage system is actually the Lakeview Joint Sewage Plant operated by both Stoneboro and Sandy Lake. All the homes and businesses in Sandy Lake have been on the system for years, but the plant's low capacity kept Stoneboro officials from finishing hookups in their town when the plant was built in the 1960s. A $4 million expansion a few years ago gave them the ability to do that, but the amount of money available forced them to complete the project in chunks. |
