Some came out of curiosity.

Some came for comfort.

Some came to reinforce their faith.

Some came to renew their faith.

Some came and left unconvinced.

Whatever reason motivated more than 1,000 people to travel to St. Joseph the Provider Catholic Church at 633 Porter Ave. in Campbell, Ohio, at sundown Friday, they were all there to see one thing: the glowing eyes of a statue of the Virgin Mary. They weren't disappointed.

One parishioner said he recalled the eyes of the statue being painted about 30 years ago, but didn't remember ever seeing the eyes glow like they have in recent days.

The statue, about 7 feet long, hangs on the bell tower of the church only about 13 miles from downtown Sharon and it has brought many to this small community near Youngstown since last week when the phenomenon was believed to have been first reported.

Among those making the journey Friday were a trio from the Shenango Valley. Tony Molinari of Sharon was on hand with his sister, Delphina McLusky, and their mother, Rose Molinari, both of Hermitage.
