Noise concerns won't
stop sports complex

Concerns about noise and traffic congestion had a few people worried about a sports complex being developed along state Route 208 in Springfield Township, but the plans are still moving ahead.

According to township administrator Barb Brown, several people expressed their worries at a recent hearing for a zoning amendment that would enable the park to move into town.

But Born2Run sports complex developer Tom Linton of Hermitage said he is doing everything the township has asked him to do.

"Springfield Township has taken the necessary steps to evaluate the potential increased traffic. Obviously there is going to be increased traffic there. They have recommended to us to get a traffic study, which we are doing. It will be submitted to the Springfield Township supervisors prior to the Aug. 18 meeting," he said.

At that meeting, he added, he hopes supervisors will approve the preliminary plan for the complex, pending the arrival of routine permits from the state Department of Environmental Protection and PennDOT.

"We are doing whatever has been asked of us to deal with any potential problem, and we'll abide by whatever is needed to address any potential problem," Linton said. "I can appreciate people's concerns, but you'll sit at the red light for five minutes at the outlet mall whether Born2Run sports was there or not."
