Town's
first fest
is a hit

By Patrecka F. Adams

A young girl immersed her hands in soapy water while making huge bubbles in one area of the children's tent, as a group of smaller children busied themselves with plastic spoons and colorful felt strips, making spoon puppets.

Others entered the tent as children and exited as cats, dogs and other animals after getting their faces painted, which showed that from 9-days-old to 99-years-young, people of all ages could find something to enjoy at the first New Wilmington Community Arts and Heritage Festival.

The three-day festival, presented by the local chamber of commerce, the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts in New Castle and Westminster College, gave local artists and vendors a venue to display their work and sell some of their wares.

Tents lined both sides of Market Street and a few were set up near Old Main Chapel on the college campus. People could buy everything from hand-carved art to watercolor paintings during the weekend event.

Many folks casually strolled through the street with their children. Some peered into tents, handled items for sale, talked to vendors, or searched for a quick bite to eat before taking in more of the activities.
