"It's disturbing."

That was Sharon Police Chief Thomas Burke's reaction when he learned of a proposal to locate a group home for juvenile sex offenders at East State Street and Strawbridge Avenue.

Burke is not alone in his opinion, but it looks like the worry could be all for naught.

Mike Sember, owner of The Phoenix Youth Service Inc., Hermitage, said the plan to locate the home in Sharon has been put on hold and may be relocated to Allegheny County where the bulk of the clients live.

"We haven't even signed a lease ... It's really up in the air," Sember said of the proposed facility that would house up to 12 juvenile sex offenders ranging in age from 13 to 19.

Sember said he's been "getting a little opposition from Mercer County CYS (Children and Youth Services)." He said he is still going through the licensing process through the state and county.
