Unless you're dead, a kid or don't live in Greenville, prepare to shell out money for the borough's per capita tax. In past practice, the borough tax collector, with council's approval, had been granting people who earned less than $5,000 each year a temporary exoneration from paying the $5 annual tax. "From now on, there will be no temporary exonerations," said council President Pete Longiotti. Exonerations are granted for people who have moved from the borough, have died, or are not 18 years old. Borough tax collector Linda Crisman has said people, such as housewives or college students, would come to her office, fill out a form requesting the exoneration and provide proof of income. She would then pass the exoneration requests along to council, who would approve the requests at their monthly meetings. |
