A former West Middlesex High School student charged with giving sleeping pills to fellow students has entered guilty pleas to some of the charges.

William Shirley III, 19, of 1309 Bend Road, Lackawannock Township, pleaded guilty Aug. 5 to two counts each of corruption of minors and delivery of Temazepam.

Two counts of possession of Temazepam and one count of corruption of minors were dismissed.

A sentencing date has not been set. Shirley is expected to be sentenced to 1 to 2 years in state prison, according to court documents.

Shirley was a senior March 16 when he gave at least four pills to two 16-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy at school, police said.

The 17-year-old and one of the 16-year-olds each consumed four pills, police said. The other boy did not take any, police said.

The 17-year-old became ill at Mercer County Career Center in Coolspring Township and was taken to United Community Hospital, Pine Township, police said. Police said they instructed the parents of the other boy who took the drugs to take him to a hospital.

Temazepam is from the same family of drugs as Valium. Sold under the brand name Restoril, it is used for the short-term treatment of insomnia.

Shirley was released on his own recognizance.
