Temple Beth Israel

Rabbi Daniel A. Roberts has been hired to serve Temple Beth Israel (Reform), 840 Highland Road. He is rabbi emeritus of Temple Emanu El in University Heights, Ohio, where he had served since 1972.

Rabbi Roberts has actively pursued an interfaith dialogue for many years, spearheading the formation of a coalition with Temple Emanu El and Antioch Baptist Church to enhance African American-Jewish understanding and a discussion group with Church of the Savior.

He is past president of University Heights Interfaith Council and Cleveland Board of Rabbis, founder of "Summer Song" annual choir concert featuring choirs from different faiths in the Heights community, and a founder of the Congregational/Community Institute of Adult Jewish Studies.

In 1992 he was honored by the city of University Heights, Ohio, with the "Outstanding Community Service Award."

Rabbi Roberts is involved in a national Reform rabbis' task force on teen suicide prevention. He has lectured at King's College International Conference on Death and Bereavement in London, Ontario, has been a regular presenter in Cleveland on issues surrounding death and dying, and addressed the Northeast Ohio Bereavement Council on spirituality and dying.

Rabbi Roberts received a doctor of ministry degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and wrote his thesis on comforting mourners.

He has also written chapters in published books on suicide, bereavement, crisis intervention, ethics concerned with death and dying, and related subjects. He has produced a multi-media presentation on teenage suicide prevention, "Inside, I Ache," which has been used in schools across the country.

Rabbi Roberts is working to open The Comfort Source: A Grief Resource Center in Cleveland.
