Buhl Day parade deadline extended

Time is running out for getting your applications in to participate in the annual Buhl Day Parade, which will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 1.

Community groups, youth groups, organizations, agencies, walking units, floats, cars and costumed performers are all welcome to join in the fun. This year, a special request is being made for extra hands.

"We would really like to have some parade marshals to assist in the line-up process!, says parade chairman Janet Buzzeo, "Extra help is always appreciated for a parade of this size."

Since this is a parade for the community, certain rule have been established to make it a safe and enjoyable experience for all. The committee asks that these rules be reviewed and discussed before the group participates. The committee asks that:

1. No candy be thrown from cars or floats. Too many children have been running into the middle of the street to grab at the treats without looking first. Though the cars and floats are moving slowly, safety is still the prime concern. Participants may walk and distribute candy along the parade route.

2. No water be shot from cars or floats. Though it may be fun at the Small Ships Review, it is neither appropriate nor safe for this parade.

3. No advertisements or political campaign signs may be exhibited. No literature of any nature should be distributed along the parade route. This is an event for the community to enjoy and solicitation of donations or sales are prohibited along the parade route.

4. All vehicles are to refrain from sounding sirens or horns along Buhl Boulevard. Letters and parade assignments have already been sent out to past participants but new entries are always encouraged.

However, though the deadline is over, if you still want to participate, please mail the name of the organization, contact person, address, number of people/vehicles and type of unit float, car/van or walking or marching to: Buhl Day Parade Committee, c/o Janet Buzzeo, 2105 Oak Haven Court, Hermitage 16148.
