Bomb threat clears auto parts plant day after shooting

As police searched for answers in the wake of Tuesday's tragic shooting at Andover Industries, someone made the process a little more difficult Wednesday morning.

Just a day after Richard W. Shadle, 32, of Cherry Valley shot three of his co-workers at the auto parts plant, killing one and then himself, someone called a bomb threat to the plant at 5:30 a.m., Ashtabula County Sheriff William Johnson said at a news briefing.

The caller, who was a man with a "gruff voice," phoned the plant and said four bombs were set to go off at 12:30 p.m., Johnson said. The caller said it was in memory of Shadle, he said.

The plant was evacuated and no bombs were found, Johnson said. He said plant managers began asking people to return to work about 1:30 p.m.
