Pittsburgh developer breaks ground for demo house

By Larissa Theodore

Concerned leaders and citizens from Farrell want to see more housing redevelopment in the city and a Pittsburgh developer is stepping up to the plate.

Barnes and Miles Global Development Corp. joined local officials and community leaders Wednesday in a groundbreaking ceremony at Spearman Avenue and Union Street.

An option agreement between Barnes and Miles, the city of Farrell and the city's redevelopment authority, will allow the developer to build one single family home using five lots. The option offers the five lots for $1 each, plus transfer costs, and makes Barnes and Miles responsible for realty and transfer taxes.

After the construction of the demonstration house is complete, it will be on view for the public and people with low-to-moderate incomes wishing to buy one.
