There is still work to do after members of the Shenango Valley Intergovernmental Study Committee spent Saturday creating a model municipality for the valley. Seventeen of the 25 committee members met for a retreat to begin creating a model for a single government for Sharon, Farrell, Hermitage, Sharpsville and Wheatland. Dennis Puko, executive director of the Mercer County Regional Planning Committee, said there were very detailed discussions, and the committee completed about 80 percent of the work that needs to be done. The retreat, held at the Mercer County Regional Council of Governments in Hermitage, was closed to the public. Puko said the committee does not want to release details of Saturday's discussion because "it would only be a partial report." He said the committee plans to finish its work after a retreat on Sept. 8 and more details will be released then. |
