The first residents of a group home for mentally ill people on Richmond Drive in Hermitage have moved in, and none of Edward J. Gallagher's fears have been realized.

Gallagher, who lives next door, told city commissioners in June he was worried about the people who would be moving in, fearing they could be dangerous, and criticized Community Counseling Center, which is running the group home, for not answering his questions more directly.

"No problems, so far," Gallagher said Friday. "We'll just have to watch and see what happens."

Commissioner Larry Gurrera said he's changed his mind and no longer opposes the home.

"I can see both sides, now," he said.

The center's executive director, Angelo Stamoolis, said people have misconceptions about those with mental illness.
