Goldstone Scholarship established

A new scholarship has been established at Shenango Campus of Pennsylvania State University.

The Arthur S. Goldstone Scholarship will provide financial assistance to an outstanding undergraduate who has enrolled, or is planning to enroll, at the campus.

The annual scholarship is made possible through a gift given in the businessman's memory from his wife, Roberta "Bobbie" L. Goldstone. Goldstone was the former owner, president and chief executive officer of Goldstein Furniture Co.

"Art loved everything about Penn State, especially the fact that he was able to share that connection with so many others from this area," Mrs. Goldstone said in a news release. The scholarship was announced by the college Friday.

Tracy Apa, of Hermitage, was chosen to receive the first scholarship. A non-traditional student and mother of two, Ms. Apa is a senior in the human development and family studies program.

The scholarship provides $500 each year to a full-time student with superior academic records and a demonstrated financial need.

Goldstone was an active member of the Penn State Shenango Advisory Board since 1994; he died June 10, 2002. The 1956 graduate of Penn State earned a degree in business administration and was president of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity.
