City retooling amendments
to its parking ordinance

By Larissa Theodore

Farrell council is retooling parking ordinance amendments after residents complained about plans to restrict parking near some intersections along Roemer Boulevard.

Several residents complained to council Monday night about a parking ordinance discussed last month that would prohibit parking within 100 feet of 15 intersections.

After hearing the complaints, council reduced the no parking zone in nearly every case to 30 or 40 feet from the corner. In one case -- Roemer and Mercer Avenue -- the restriction was raised to 150 feet from the northwest corner of Mercer.

Before the new measures were announced, residents had a lot to say about the amendment.

Rev. Martha Sanders, pastor of the Hour of Power Full Gospel Tabernacle in Farrell, said her church at Beechwood and Idaho, stood to lose 12 to 15 spaces under the proposed ordinance.
