Officials in West Middlesex Area School District are very happy with their state test scores, but they're wondering how they will duplicate or improve those scores next year. "I was so thrilled at our test scores for reading and math," Jane Martin, director of curriculum and special education, said at Monday's school board meeting. She said she was particularly happy with the 11th-grade writing scores, where almost 79 percent of the students tested proficient. The Pennsylvania State System of Assessment tests categorize students as advanced, proficient, basic or below basic in reading, math and writing. "We've had two good years," Superintendent Al Jones said of the district's rising test scores. However, reduction of staff and large class sizes along with an influx of special-education students and new teachers have officials wondering how they will continue the mandatory improvement in test scores. |
