Utilities' future

§   §   §

hinges on study

Five, 10, 20 years from now, the water and sewer systems in Greenville could still be owned by the borough. Or, the utilities could be part of a regional authority including surrounding townships. Yet another possibility is that a private company could come along and buy both.

But before anything can happen, a study needs to be done to see which, if any, of those options are feasible for the utilities in the region, according to borough officials.

Greenville Municipal Authority and borough council have agreed to start working together to determine the future of the borough's water and sewer systems.

The study is a suggestion from the borough's Act 47 economic recovery plan. Under the plan, devised by Resource Development Management, the state-appointed recovery coordinator, the borough was advised to evaluate longterm ownership of the water and sewer systems and form a committee with members of the board. The borough will apply for state grants to fund the study.
