keeps chocolate in the family By Sherris Moreira-Byers Herald Staff Writer A recent blending of chocolates occurred when Daffin's Candies of Sharon bought Costello's Candies with stores in Grove City and Girard, Ohio. But don't expect Costello's to meltaway anytime soon. "Right now, we're leaving everything the same. Maybe later it will just be a division of Daffin's, but right now, until we get organized a little bit, we're just keeping it the same with the main store being here in Sharon," said Jean Daffin, the sister of Joe Costello of Sharpsville, who with his wife Dorothy, owned Costello's Candies for 46 years. The Costellos officially retired Tuesday. No sales price was disclosed for the business, which is famous for its meltaways and caramel eggs. The sale, which took place in July, includes two stores plus the factory in Girard. Daffin's will also take over the lease at the Grove City store, Mrs. Daffin said. Both Costello and Mrs. Daffin said no jobs at either business would be affected. With the buyout, Daffin's will employ about 100 people, including about 10 from Costello's. |
