against mom dropped in fasting case By Larissa Theodore Herald Staff Writer
All charges have been dropped against a Fairview Township woman accused of forcing her two teenage daughters to fast for 10 days. Christine M. Sauer, 40, of 109 Balut Road, Lot 1, was accused last year of forcing her daughters, then 16 and 17, to eat only green beans and drink only water because she wanted to "rid their soul of demons," according to a state police affidavit. Ms. Sauer was charged Aug. 12, 2002, with two counts of child endangerment, simple assault and harassment. District Attorney James P. Epstein Aug. 26 requested the charges be dismissed. Assistant District Attorney Robert Kochems said Ms. Sauer successfully completed required diagnostic programs after a judge ordered she undergo a mental evaluation and drug and alcohol counseling. There were never any additional problems reported by Mercer County Children and Youth Services, Kochems added. |
