its first-ever alumni reunion

An event at least two years in the making came to fruition at 10 a.m. Sunday in St. Joseph School, but planners say it's only the beginning.

Former students who graduated from the school in years ending in four or nine were invited to the first-ever alumni reunion. Former students from the class of 1934 through the class of 1999 attended, as did three former teachers from Erie.

The free program was also open to church parishioners who donated to the school's spring alumni appeal.

St. Joseph's pastor, the Rev. Christopher Merry, said that in all, between 50 and 60 people attended the event.

"The reunion we had over the Labor Day holiday was twofold," Rev. Merry said. "It was an opportunity for graduates of the fours and nines to come together, and it was a thank you for everyone who made a contribution in the spring."
