The Humane Society of Mercer County is writing a fresh chapter in history as it works steadily to expand its countywide effort.

The society is moving its offices to Hermitage, after conducting business from the basement of the executive director's home for nearly two years.

The public is invited to an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday celebrating the society's new office space at 2005 Pine Hollow Blvd. Refreshments will be offered and humane agents will be on hand to talk about animal abuse, neglect and cruelty.

Executive Director Sandi Drabick said the society did OK working out of her home, but to have a presence in the community, it desperately needed to rent the space.
