Vocal Hall induction events

Here are events planned in connection with the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and Museum's induction ceremony:

» A public reception dinner and rehearsal will be held Sept. 15 at the Holiday Inn Metroplex, Liberty, Ohio. The groups will work out arrangements of songs with each other -- if they haven't sung together in a while -- and the backing band. Microphones are placed at every table and singers often join in on others' hits. Tickets are $50. The dinner opens with cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner follows at 7.

» Inductees will participate in the "Footprints of Fame" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Columbia Theatre, Sharon. Reyers is providing shoes that the singers will use to make impressions in concrete in the park at the front of the theater. The shoes will be signed and auctioned at the induction concerts.

» Inductees will lead a workshop on harmony for junior and senior high school students from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 17 at Cafaro Field, Niles, Ohio. Members of the Drifters, the Chantels, the Clovers, the Dixie Hummingbirds, the Four Lads, the Pied Pipers, the Skyliners, Jay and the Americans and other groups are scheduled to participate. The inductees also will talk about life as a professional performer. Admission is $10 a student, which includes lunch. There is room for more schools to participate.

» Inductees will be available to meet fans between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Eastwood Mall, Niles. The event is free.

» The hall's induction concerts, featuring new and past inductees, will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 and 18 at Cafaro Field. Performers on Sept. 17 will be the Manhattan Transfer, the Lettermen, the Association, the Four Lads, the Charlie Thomas and Bill Pinkney Drifters, Carl Gardner of the Coasters, Danny & the Juniors, the Chantels, the Clovers, the Harptones, the Pied Pipers and the Dixie Hummingbirds. The Sept. 18 performers will be Martha and the Vandellas, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, the Original Jay and the Americans, the Fifth Dimension, Michelle Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas, Frankie Lymon's Teenagers, the Impressions, the Skyliners, the Modernaires, the Orioles, Harold Jackson's Ink Spots and the Marcels. Performers will be available for autographs and handshakes in the Fun Zone throughout the concerts.

» The state Senate's Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee will hold a hearing on the Truth in Rock bill from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 18 at the vocal hall.

The bill, introduced by state Sen. Robert D. Robbins of Salem Township, R-50th District, would require concert tickets to say whether there are any original members in a group. Performers such as Mary Wilson of the Supremes, Chuck Blasko of the Vogues and Joe Terry of Danny and the Juniors, copyright and trademark specialists and state Attorney General Mike Fisher are among those expected to testify.

The committee's chairman, Sen. Robert M. Tomlinson of Bensalem, R-6th District, will preside.
