Brass Taxi turns off meter for CD release celebration

The jazz band Brass Taxi will hold a compact disc release party Tuesday at the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and Museum, Sharon.

The band will release the album "Standard Fare." Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the band will play at 8.

WPIC will broadcast live from the hall.

Admission is free and tours of the museum will be available, with donations going to the hall.

The band plays big band swing, Broadway, Latin, jazz, country, rhythm 'n' blues and other genres.

Members are Kari Thormodsgard of Greenville on vocals, guitarist and vocalist Buddy White of Greenville, Bob Rehner of Hermitage on bass and keyboards, Doug Butchy of Mercer on saxophone, clarinet and vocals, Tom Hunt of Shenango Township on trumpet, flugelhorn and vocals, Steve Dalrymple of Cortland on trombone and vocals, and drummer Jeff Sweigard of Greenville.

The band performed with many acts at last year's vocal hall induction concerts, and will again at induction concerts Sept. 17 and 18.
