Some Shenango Township supervisors want to see something happen with the proposal to extend sewer and water lines to parts of the township. Chairman Larry Robinson Monday said the municipal authority meets next week and will discuss the idea. Supervisor Charles Gilliland said he has heard from many residents who want water and sewer service. "This isn't 1940," he said. "Let's jump on this. Let's get it done," Supervisor Bill Williams said. Williams said officials have been discussing the possibility of extending the lines for two years but nothing has been done. He wanted to know what is taking so long. Gilliland said the township could lose potential development if water and sewer lines are not available to everyone. The proposal would affect the east and west ends of the township. On the west end, many of the approximately 280 homes have municipal sewers, but no municipal water. About 50 homes on the east end of the township have neither. Robinson said Consumers Pennsylvania Water officials want to ensure if they spend the money to put in water lines, the utility will own them. Robinson said the township would not want the lines because of the maintenance cost. Cost is also a factor. Robinson said he is asking about different routes for the system to try to keep the cost down. "The five of us (the supervisors) don't want to hurt anybody," Gilliland said. He said the cost must be financially feasible for residents. Robinson said when more definite figures are available they can give more information to the public and hold public hearings.
