Accused kidnappers face lesser charges

Most of the charges filed against two Ohio men who allegedly kidnapped and robbed two teens at gunpoint were dropped after the teens who accused them of kidnapping admitted to trying to buy marijuana from the pair.

"He looked young. I figured he might party, might know where to get it," said one alleged victim about James "Smoke" Mills, 18, who was charged along with Cazimier "Cash" Rankin, 20, with forcing the teens into their car and robbing them of about $40, two pocket knives and two packs of cigarettes.

The alleged victims, both 17-year-olds from Florida, testified Tuesday afternoon during a preliminary hearing for Mills and Rankin before District Justice Lawrence T. Silvis. The boys admitted to lying about how they got into the Ohio men's car but said the men robbed them at gunpoint.

"I wasn't sure if trying to buy marijuana was illegal or not or if I'd get thrown in jail. I knew my parents wouldn't approve," one boy said. He said he and his friend came up with the kidnapping story while walking back from the alleged robbery.
