of Sept. 18 city council meeting Sharon residents interested in hearing firsthand about the status of the Oakland Avenue Viaduct can do so Sept. 18. A public discussion is planned for the council meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the city building, according to a news release from Council President Fred Hoffman. "The city of Sharon has many concerns over the incomplete project, including safety and financial issues and seeks resolution to the Oakland Avenue Viaduct project," he said. Mercer County commissioners; the county bridge engineer; a representative from Carmen Paliotta Contracting; state Rep. Michael C. Gruitza, Hermitage, D-7th District; state Sen. Robert D. "Bob" Robbins, Salem Township, R-50th District; and U.S. Rep. Phil English, Erie, R-3rd District have been invited, Hoffman said. The viaduct, which spans U.S. Route 62, also known as Connelly Boulevard in Sharon, was demolished in June 2001. Work to rebuild it halted in November 2001 when a curve in the bridge was discovered. |
