Woman charged in slaying
of alleged kidnapper

The Associated Press

A woman who says she was abducted and raped has been charged with killing one of her alleged kidnappers with his own shotgun.

Investigators were trying to determine how 37-year-old Lisa Cogar got the gun, said Trumbull County Sheriff Thomas Altiere.

Ms. Cogar, who said she fired in self defense, was charged with voluntary manslaughter, Altiere said Wednesday.

"After talking to other witnesses, we're not 100 percent sure she had consensual sex or was raped. We're going to present evidence to let a court determine which should be believed," he said.

Ms. Cogar was jailed to await arraignment before District Justice Ronald Rice at 9 a.m. Thursday in Eastern District Court in Brookfield.

Timothy Williams, 33, of Kinsman was charged with kidnapping.
