By Stephanie Hartle Allied News Staff Writer In 1970, John Patrick of Grove City retired from his job as an engineer at the Mount Vernon, Ohio, Cooper Bessemer plant. He was 62 years old at the time. Thirty-three years later, Patrick, 95, is retiring again -- this time from his position as director of Pine Township Community Center. His assistant, Carol Russell, will replace him. Patrick got the job, he said, when the former director passed away. He applied for the job and was hired with the help of the Rev. Ernest Daly -- a former pastor of Church of the Beloved Disciple, Grove City, of which Patrick is a member -- and another parishioner, George Tucci, a township supervisor. His job as director was, in general, to manage the center. "It operated in the black all the time," he said, noting that presented a challenge but also that the center was supported by the United Way. |
