Family of girl bitten by dog suspects guilty canine is free

Doreen Gregory's 10-year-old daughter is scheduled to receive her third set of rabies shots today, and the Brookfield woman is very upset.

She said she doubts the stories of officials at the Trumbull County dog warden's office, and she wants to know what really happened to the animal she says bit her child.

Mrs. Gregory said the story began at about 7:45 p.m. Sept. 5 when a small black and brown dog came over to her daughter, who was playing near their home. It started growling and then bit her.

Mrs. Gregory said the dog bit her daughter's right arm and leg, and when the girl tried to kick it to get it off her arm, it began to bite her leg.

Mrs. Gregory called 911 and her daughter was taken to the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System.

Another 10-year-old girl claimed also to have been bitten by a dog while she was playing near State Line Road earlier that same evening, Brookfield police said.

Police said they caught and identified a chow mix as the dog that bit both girls. Police took the dog to the Trumbull County dog pound in Howland, where it was quarantined in an indoor/outdoor kennel and observed for any signs of rabies.
