Mosquito pools have tested positive for West Nile virus in Hempfield Township, the Pennsylvania Department of Health reported Tuesday. The positive pools are the latest case of the mosquito-borne virus to be found in the county. Other recent positive cases that sprung up in the county include: an American crow on Monday in Shenango Township and two blue jays in West Middlesex and Jackson Township last week. One human case, an 11-year-old girl, was reported earlier in the summer in Mercer County. In all, the following positives have been reported in the county: three chickens, six birds, two horses and two mosquito samples. |
