Mosquitoes have West Nile virus

Mosquito pools have tested positive for West Nile virus in Hempfield Township, the Pennsylvania Department of Health reported Tuesday.

The positive pools are the latest case of the mosquito-borne virus to be found in the county.

Other recent positive cases that sprung up in the county include: an American crow on Monday in Shenango Township and two blue jays in West Middlesex and Jackson Township last week.

One human case, an 11-year-old girl, was reported earlier in the summer in Mercer County. In all, the following positives have been reported in the county: three chickens, six birds, two horses and two mosquito samples.
