Council's free ride won't last forever,
solicitor says

The hunt for money for a proposed $6 million revitalization of downtown Grove City will cost the borough nothing -- yet.

Solicitor Tim Bonner made it clear to council and residents Monday night that the consulting firm of E.G. & G. likely will ask council in October or November to approve a contract for the revitalization project.

Bonner explained that giving Grove City Revitalization Inc.'s consultant the go-ahead to hunt for money, also gave the firm "at least a signal ... to prepare this contract."

"But we still reserve the right if it's not acceptable, we can still turn it down," Bonner said.

One of the funding sources the Akron consultant will look into is a $250,000 grant available through the end of October.

Preliminary plans call for the borough and private sources to foot about half the total cost.

Councilman William Limberg was not impressed.
