Supervisor injured
at Wheatland Tube

A nonunion worker was hurt Tuesday at Wheatland Tube Co.'s Wheatland plant, the company acknowledged Thursday.

William Kerins, the company's vice president, would only say that the accident occurred, that it wasn't life-threatening or major and that the worker was taken to a local hospital. He declined to release the name of the employee.

However, Michael Munger, president of United Steelworkers Local 1660 identified the employee as Gerald Elliott of Hermitage, a supervisor at the plant. Local 1660 represents 470 production and maintenance workers at the strikebound Wheatland plant.

Munger said he didn't know details of the accident but was told Elliott will be OK.

A spokeswoman for UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh said Elliott was in stable condition Thursday evening.
